COVID-19 has presented many challenges for VCA and with much prayer and consideration we as a staff have had to make some tough decisions. Due to the climate of this pandemic and the lack of student enrollment we have decided to take a Sabbatical Year, where we intentionally take a year to rest and let God prepare for future growth.
What is a Sabbatical Year?
It is based on a Biblical concept found in Exodus 25:10-11 (NIV)
10 “For six years you are to sow your fields and harvest the crops, 11 but during the seventh year let the land lie unplowed and unused. Then the poor among your people may get food from it, and the wild animals may eat what is left. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.”
and Leviticus 25:4 (NIV)
4 “But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of Sabbath rest, a Sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards.”
Existing Community Support Options
1. Communication and connection for grade level groups
We will keep a list of our students who would like to connect throughout the year and ask for volunteers for each grade level to help coordinate regular activities like meeting outdoors at a park. If you are interested in coordinating a grade level, please let us know at: firstname.lastname@example.org
When new families inquire this year, we would like to encourage them to be folded into our community and supported by all of you.
2. Teacher directed learning:
We have teachers who have prayerfully decided to offer lesson planning, tutoring, and even a Middle School Social Studies class. This will allow us as a community to help support our teachers and their families financially while enjoying the direction of our experienced teachers. Please email us for more information at email@example.com.
3. Curriculum borrowing library:
This will allow families to continue as seamlessly as possible into the 2020-2021 school year with familiar curriculum. With a refundable deposit based on the return of the curriculum in good condition, this should help reduce overall cost for families who want to take advantage of this offering.
4. Transition support:
Especially for our new families, we are happy to work with you directly to connect and access all three of the above services.
5. Tech Trep Details:
For those families that have already registered with Tech Trep, you will still be able to continue this program and receive support. Tech Trep will provide you with a certified teacher and a list of learning goals for the year, as well as ideas for how to best meet them in your family. They can walk you through how to upload the student assessments and learning plans. You will also have $1700 (1st-8th Graders) and $850 (Kindergarten) available to be reimbursed for educational related expenses, which can include music, tutoring, curriculum, supplies, etc. If you have not registered and would like to, the deadline has moved to July 31st. If you have questions, please reach out to Kate Rajsich at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
During this Sabbatical Year, we have the opportunity as a VCA community to build a strong board and stronger foundation to start school back up from. The goal is to fully staff the volunteer school board, file for our 501(c)3, and hire a principal for Fall 2021. If you are interested in serving on the school board or a committee and have not already done so, please contact us at email@example.com for an application.
As we enter into this year of rest and rebuilding, please be lifting one another up in prayer. Everyone in our VCA community will need encouragement and support, but especially our new families. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. You are an amazing group of families that we have been privileged to serve. As we launch into this next school year, may you be filled with His love, grace, mercy, and strength.
In His Grace,
The VCA Team
